Description Coir Erosion Control Mats are typically considered some of the strongest biodegradable erosion mats available. Designed to last anywhere from 4-6 years, these erosion mats are a common choice for areas that require long-term support while vegetation takes root. Most mats are designed as an open weave netting that is equipped to handle seeding before or after installation. Coir matting has been used in any of the following applications: Stream Bank Restoration, Vegetation, Wetland Restoration, Stabilization in High Flow Channels, Slope Stabilization and Vegetation. Coir fiber is obtained from the bristles of the outer layer of the fruit of the Coconut tree and is 100% biodegradable.  Coir Mats are woven with coir fiber yarns providing strength, environmental friendliness and functional longevity in excess of three years. The Coir Mats are available in three weights: EC-4Y – 400 grams/sq. meter; EC 7Y – 700 grams/sq. meter and EC 9Y – 900 grams/sq. meter (14, 22 and 30 oz/sq yard, respectively). EC-4Y and EC-7Y meet the Type 3.B, specifications and EC-9Y meets the Type 4. specification established by the Erosion Control Technology Council (ECTC) and all meet the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) FP-03 Section 713.17.
